Most of the night-life in Portsmouth is to be found in the Southsea area. The area around The Point tends to attract summer visitors out for a drink in the evening but for the most atmosphere you should head for the Old Portsmouth district.

The Geography of Portsmouth
Portsmouth is located on the Solent, which leads into the English Channel after going around the Isle of Wight. Being a coastal city the land rarely rises above 3m, although to the north of the city is Portsdown Hill, an area of harder chalk.

Portsmouth is known as one of the major industrial centres in the UK. In the times of Henry VIII it became the first place in the world to have a dry dock. It then became one of the Royal Ports and its tradition of repairing and building ships began.
