The Geography of Portsmouth
Portsmouth is located on the Solent, which leads into the English Channel after going around the Isle of Wight. Being a coastal city the land rarely rises above 3m, although to the north of the city is Portsdown Hill, an area of harder chalk.

Business and Industry in Portsmouth
Portsmouth is known as one of the major industrial centres in the UK. In the times of Henry VIII it became the first place in the world to have a dry dock. It then became one of the Royal Ports and its tradition of repairing and building ships began.

Transport in and around Portsmouth
The historical importance of Portsmouth as a naval base has ensured that it has excellent road links to and from London. Unfortunately the same cannot be said if you’re travelling to or from Portsmouth to elsewhere in the UK.
